Dwayne Johnson is all about moviegoers singing along in theaters—especially if it’s a musical! The actor, who’s returning as the voice of the singing demigod Maui in Moana 2, shared his thoughts at the film’s U.K. premiere on November 24. He thinks it’s totally okay to belt out the tunes in a theater, as long as you’re enjoying the music.

“If you love music, that’s the fun part,” Johnson said, encouraging fans to let loose and sing. He believes if you’ve paid for a ticket to see a musical, then you should absolutely sing along if the mood strikes.

His comments come after a big debate online about whether it’s appropriate to sing during movies. This discussion was sparked by the release of Wicked: Part One, and the controversy only grew after AMC Theaters, the country’s largest theater chain, shared a pre-show video reminding viewers to stay quiet during the movie. The video featured clips from Wicked and was part of AMC’s long-standing “silence is golden” policy.

AMC’s spokesperson explained that the purpose of the video was to keep things respectful for everyone, especially those who prefer a quieter movie experience. The video also featured the movie’s themes, adding some fun to the message.

Despite the theater chain’s reminder, Dwayne Johnson is still all about encouraging fans to sing, especially in musicals. “You’ve paid your hard-earned money, you’re into the music—sing!” he said, making it clear he’s all for the fun of it.

Johnson’s return to Moana 2 isn’t just a professional one—it’s also a family affair. His daughters, Jasmine and Tiana, are part of the movie too, doing voiceover work for some of the characters. Johnson is excited to share this moment with them and looks forward to seeing how the film will be received by fans when it hits theaters on November 27.
